How kicker projections work
Scoring: field goals of 0–39 yards are worth 3, 40–49 yards 4, 50+ yards 5, extra points 1, and misses −1. Fit on every kicker game from 2018–2024: projected points = 4.02 + 0.159 × the team's Vegas implied total, blended 75/25 with the kicker's own average. Tested on 2025, it missed by 3.9 points per kicker-week, versus 4.2 for season averages. Kicking is noisy week to week, so prefer kickers on teams expected to score a lot, in domes or calm weather. Matchup rank 1 is the defense that allows the most kicker points.
